FONTODI

The Fontodi estate is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico denomination, precisely in the valley south of Panzano, called "Conca d’Oro" because of its amphitheater shape; in this area there is a terroir particularly suited for the production of the vine, in particular for Sangiovese, thanks to a perfect combination of altitude, composition of the galestro soil, a lot of attention and a warm microclimate with good temperature excursions. The Fontodi family moved in 1980 to the villa of the estate, previously used as a country house, and here the sons Giovanni and Marco participated in the production of wine, supported by the oenologist Franco Barnabei. Today the company carries out a meticulous work managed according to the principles of organic and natural agriculture, where chemical products are not used (The vineyards are fertilized using compost produced by raising the Chianine cows of the company). With the 1980 vintage, "Flaccianello della Pieve" was born alongside wines produced from indigenous vines, first of all Sangiovese, produced with absolutely new methods compared to international vines, a label that has received enormous success from critics.
