Barolo Monprivato Magnum 2003 Giuseppe Mascarello
Barolo Monprivato Magnum 2003 is a fine Piedmontese wine produced by Giuseppe Mascarello. It is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes from the winery's historic vineyard: the Monprivato cru, in the commune of Castiglione Falletto.
Long vinification and aging in large casks are the distinctive traits of Mascarello's production, where the utmost attention is paid to each step of production, in order to obtain the highest quality of grapes and wines: fermentation is traditionally carried out for 20/26 days with emerged cap, then the wine is aged in Slavonian oak casks for about 30 months.
This 2003 Barolo Monprivato is an atypical version endowed with power and structure and supported by ripe fruit, with pretty round tannins, characteristics which come from the pretty hot vintage 2003. Intense garnet red in color, it has a complex nose of ripe fruit and spicy and floral aromas. The complex sip reflects the terroir, with a nice length, ripe tannins, moderate acidity by Monprivato standards, but good length and persistence.
