Azelia Barolo San Rocco 2003
The Barolo San Rocco is a great expression of Barolo Docg, very intense and complex, certainly a fine Piedmontese wine of the highest level, vinified from 100% Nebbiolo grapes from Azienda Agricola Azelia.
Azelia Barolo San Rocco was born in the homonymous San Rocco cru, in Serralunga d'Alba, on clayey-calcareous soils with southern exposure, at an altitude of 330 meters from vineyards 55 years old. The red wine vinification takes place in submerged cap with only indigenous yeasts for 4/5 weeks in vertical steel tanks followed by 24 months of aging in barriques.
The Barolo San Rocco Azelia is presented in a ruby red goblet with garnet reflections, the nose is complex with fruity notes of cherry and small red fruits as well as a wide range of spices on which the liquorice stands out. In the mouth it is powerful and austere, but also velvety with ripe and perfectly integrated tannins. A very long-lived wine, capable of challenging decades, a monumental Barolo.
