Chateau Angelus 2020 En Primeur
Château Angelus came out slightly ahead of its 2019 release.
Hubert and Stephanie de Bouard produced one of their best wines ever in the critically acclaimed 2020 (98-99 JS and 97 JA).
Similar to the incredible Cheval Blanc, this top St. Emilion is one of the wines of the vintage. Hubert de Bouard described it as "the Merlot in this vintage is like something we have never seen before".

This is wonderfully refined and balanced with such depth. Full-bodied and so polished and pure. Subtle at first, then it takes off and keeps coming. Sophisticated. 60% merlot and 40% cabernet franc.

Soft plum fruit, I love the aromas of this and the surprising fruit. Silky in texture, balanced and elegant, there are big tannins that slowly but surely creep up on you through the palate. This is an elegant, balanced and confidently built Angélus, with depth to the body of olive, chocolate, cassis and a kiss of crushed mint leaf on the finish. As often with this vintage it's not an exuberant embrace, it's more about understated power and a wonderful theft of flavors and textures that give depth and subtle power. 3.62pH, aged in large oak barrels and oak casks. A yield of 37hl/ha. Drink 2028-2048.

Intense purple-black color. As in 2019 inherent power but an added edge of refinement. Ripe but aromatically appealing with floral, dark fruit and chocolate notes. Lovely texture with depth of fruit and velvety, fresh tannins that provide solid structure and drive on the finish. Classic Angélus with a bit more precision and polish. Drink 2028-2045.
