OVERNOY

Overnoy Grandi BottiglieOvernay, the new face of Jura

The Maison Pierre Overnoy is located in the commune of Pupillin, in the French department of Jura. Pierre Overnoy is one of those winemakers who have worked to raise the quality levels of wine production in Jura: from the very first vintage in 1968, his work has been based on the traditional model followed by his father and some of the old winemakers of Pupillin, rejecting the new trends that began to spread in the 1960s to simplify the work of winemakers at the expense of wine quality.

This included, for example, clonal selections, the use of chemical herbicides, selected industrial yeasts, extensive use of sulphites, chemical additives and more. Overnoy has pursued a path aimed at obtaining the maximum expression of terroir through his wines, a path made up of studies and research, experimenting for example with the filling of barrels for white wines and winemaking totally without sulphites.

Today, after 10 years of working together, Maison Pierre Overnoy is in the hands of Emmanuel Ouillony, his adopted son. He cultivates the six hectares of vines on the estate according to the principles handed down by his father, producing wines mainly based on Ploussard, Chardonnay and Savagnin, strictly with grapes harvested by hand, spontaneous fermentation and natural vinification without sulphites or other chemical substances. Although the use of sulphites is almost totally eliminated, its wines are characterised by a great propensity for aging. A work based on simplicity and tradition seeking to obtain the purest expressions of the Pupillin terroir.
