Clos Puy Arnaud is a winery in Bordeaux, run by Thierry Valette under biodynamic regime. The winery is located in Belves de Castillon and has 6 hectares of vineyards owned by the Valette family. Thierry, at first busy in other fields, gradually discovered the passion for wine and his vision will be greatly influenced by the knowledge of Anne Calderoni, supporter of holistic ideas and very respectful of the balance with the surrounding environment, principles which are at the base of biodynamic agriculture.
Clos Puy Arnaud winery is located on the ridge of Saint Èmillion, even though the area was excluded from the appellation and not considered by the big realities of the area, this was an advantage for Thierry and other local winemakers who were able to buy at affordable prices some lands and start a collaboration among them which has the goal of producing the best red wine of Bordeaux. Vineyards owned by the winery are 30-60 years old and here are cultivated the classic Bordeaux grapes, first of all Merlot, followed by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The secret of the quality of these wines is the particular vocation of the soil, composed by a matrix of limestone à astéries (starfish).
In the winery the fermentations are completely spontaneous and are made with indigenous yeasts only, whereas the aging is done in cement, amphorae or wood casks according to a very careful work in order to preserve the innate characteristics of grapes and terroir. Clos Puy Arnaud's wines are an authentic and genuine expression of the fruit: they are high quality wines capable of telling the "artisan" side of this region.
