Les Cretes Chardonnay "Cuvée Bois" 2006
The Chardonnay Cuvee Bois of Les Cretes is a white wine from the Aosta Valley, the result of mountain cultivation where the altitude of the vineyards, the harsh climate and the composition of the soils give the wine a distinct mineral and savoury quality, qualities that are skilfully softened by ageing in barriques.
The Les Cretes winery is a relatively young company, founded in 1989 by the current owner Constantine Charrere in Aymavilles, where the castle of the same name stands, whose tower overlooking the valley below has become a symbol of the winery. The vineyards owned by the company are planted in steep terrain with moraine and sandy soils, optimal conditions for the cultivation of native local and international varieties, as in the case of this 2006 Cahrdonnay Cuvee Les Bois.
The rigid mountain climate obliges the grapes to ripen late, which, in the face of sharp changes in temperature between autumn and winter, develop characteristic aromatic precursors in the bunch, giving the wine a complex bouquet.
Les Cretes Chardonnay "Cuvée Bois" 2006 is a straw yellow wine, the nose is pleasantly intense and complex, with floral hints of mimosa, exotic fruit, including banana and pineapple, and spices. In the mouth it is soft and fresh, very well balanced between hardness and softness with a nice savory finish that calls for another sip of this great wine!
