Chateauneauf du Pape 2018 Domaine de Marcoux
Chateauneauf du Pape 2018 is a fine wine from the Rhone Valley produced by Domaine de Marcoux. It is made from a blend of different grapes, in particular for the 2018 vintage it is composed of 72% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 3% Cinsault, coming from 13 plots that are composed of a wide range of soil types, from the sandy soils of Charbonnières, to the red clay and galets of L'Arnesque and Les Bosquets, to the limestone and white clay of Les Esqueirons and Beau Renard, and finally the red clay and gravel of Les Galimardes, Les Serres and Les Plagnes in the south.
This means that Marcoux is able to produce a wine that truly reflects the terroir of Châteauneuf in its entirety, and the Domaine's wines are extremely balanced because each parcel is vinified separately. Processed according to biodynamic principles, fermentations take place naturally and the wine is aged in cement vats (90%) and large old oak for 18 months, after which the wine is bottled without filtration. The 2018 Chateauneauf du Pape is a juicy and seductive red with great elegance and freshness.
Bright ruby red in colour, it expresses on the nose hints of ripe blackberry, red currant and floral hints of violet followed by a smoky and mineral note. The taste is fresh but at the same time structured, with a refined and persistent finish. Already enjoyable to drink now, it will reach its full potential in 10-15 years.
