Langhe Freisa 2016 Curto Marco
Langhe Freisa 2016 is a naturally produced red wine from Piedmont by Curto Marco. It is made from 100% Freisa grapes from the upper part of the Annunziata hamlet in the commune of La Morra, and about 1000 bottles are produced each year. This wine was created by the skilful hands of Nadia Curto, a natural wine-growing enthusiast, and demonstrates that a vine such as Freisa, often undervalued and certainly more rustic than the more famous Nebbiolo, actually has characteristics in common with it and is able to worthily represent the terroir of the Langhe.
Harvesting is by hand and fermentation is spontaneous using indigenous yeasts. After a maceration of 8 days with manual remontage and punching down, the wine is placed in stainless steel containers where malolactic fermentation takes place, while it is aged in used barriques for one year. The wine is then bottled without clarification or filtration.
The Langhe Freisa 2016 of Curto Marco has a ruby red colour, not too deep, with garnet reflections. The nose offers floral, spicy and fruity aromas of plum and small red fruits. In the mouth the wine is a bit rustic with vegetal, fruit and liquorice hints, for a quite structured, fresh and tannic sip.
