Valentini's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2015 - Description
Valentini's Montepulciano is one of the greatest Italian red wines, a fine wine for aging that describes the region where it is born, Abruzzo. There are few names in the world oenological universe that are able to excite as Valentini does, every bottle and every vintage is a story in itself, they are alive in constant change, the same bottle re-tasteed after some time will rarely give the same emotions as the first time, but will give others always very good.
The Valentini winery is located in Loreto Aprutino, Abruzzo, and produces two types of grapes, Trebbiano and Montepulciano, as well as an excellent oil from the many olive trees that adorn the estate. The cultivation practiced is artisanal, with manual harvesting and natural vinification without selected yeasts.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Valentini is produced with the homonymous vine only in the great vintages from vineyards that are not treated with any chemical product. The cultivation and vinification takes place in a natural and strictly artisanal way, manual harvesting with the consequent choice of the best bunches that will then be taken to the cellar for crushing and fermentation in large oak barrels, obviously without any type of yeast added. The aging takes place for about 12 months in large oak casks and followed by at least another 48 months in bottle, in reality the wine comes out on the market only when Francesco Valentini thinks it is ready, otherwise he is still waiting.
In the glass the wine has a very deep ruby red, almost impenetrable, the nose is very complex: coffee, plum, chocolate, humus, wet leaves are just some of the scents that can be picked up in the glass, the facets are endless. In the mouth it is an extremely balanced wine: on the one hand full bodied, on the other a pungent freshness. The finish is very long, a truly persistent wine that can be counted among the great red wines of the world.
