CATALDO CALABRETTA
_________
Cataldo comes from a family of winemakers for generations, and it is understood by the love that nourishes for the vines even before the wine. It is Calabrian to the marrow, passionate about its land and its contrasts, which are also found in its wines, small masterpieces in which to be seduced by the roughness of some Calabrian views and the warmth of the sun, the freshness of the sun and freshness of silane evenings. Cataldo has been producing organic certification since the start of its business, but above all it takes care of the vineyards as part of the cultural heritage of its land.
In Cirò you arrive from the north, bordering on one side endless beaches, other citrus groves interrupted only by centenarian olive groves. You can glimpse the village perched a few kilometers from Cirò Marina, but you are unprepared for the wild landscape that opens before your eyes, just a short distance from the sea, going up the rivers that dig the valleys to reach the hillside vineyards. You cross grazing cows, sheep roaming the streets, and in winter you are struck by the almost Irish green that contrasts with the warm tones of the earth burned by the summer sun. Recovering the vineyards of the hilly areas, in a territory where the fetish of large quantities has paradoxically led to give greater value to the flat vineyards, is at the same time a work that fights for the dignity of a name with enormous potential and for the memory of a place from which came the wine with which the athletes returning from the Olympics were rewarded in the ancient Enotria.
