Comando G, biodynamic wines from Spain

Comando G Viticultores is a Spanish winery that was founded in 2008 by two friends Daniel Gomez Landi and Fernando Garcia, fellow students in Oenology and Viticulture at the University of Madrid. They come from the same area, the Sierra de Gredos, and the same philosophy of producing wines with full respect for the environment and the area of origin, a mountainous land where the vines grow from 900 to 1000 metres above sea level, about 100 kilometres east of Madrid, with many old vines, some over 100 years old, planted free-range.

As in Burgundy, their labels are divided into communal appellation (Village), district (1er Cru) and parcel (Grand Cru). The winery has a total of 5 hectares of vines plus other rented land, which are located in positions that are often difficult to reach and are managed according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture with a ban on the use of chemical products and full respect for the surrounding environment. Ploughing is done with a horse so as not to ruin the soil, which is of a gratin-sandy matrix.

Here Daniel and Fernando grow grapes typical of the area, in particular their work aims to re-evaluate the local Garnacha (Grenache) grape variety, through a different and more refined guise. To this end they have experimented with the use of amphorae for both vinification and ageing: these are Spanish tinajas, not buried in the ground, produced by Padilla (the same ones used by Foradori), allowing them to obtain very territorial wines where they try to highlight above all freshness and minerality. )
