SAN GIUSTO A RENTENNANO
San Giusto a Rentennano, organic wines from Tuscany
San Giusto a Rentennano is a historic Tuscan wine estate based in Gaiole in Chianti, in the province of Siena, which has been owned for centuries by the Ricasoli family of the Castello di Brolio. The estate was originally an ancient Cistercian monastery, and includes an underground cellar with very favourable light and humidity conditions for wine preservation.
Today the estate is run by the Martini brothers and has a total of about 160 hectares, 31 of which are planted with vines, 11 with olive trees and the rest with arable land, woodland, meadows and pasture. The soil of the vineyards is varied, mainly tufaceous with over 70% sand, where Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Merlot, Trebbiano and Malvasia, all native Tuscan vines, are grown. All the working processes in the vineyard and in the cellar follow organic farming principles, in full respect of the terroir.
The pride and joy of the San Giusto a Rentennano winery is undoubtedly the Chianti Classico DOCG, produced according to the classic Chianti blend, i.e. 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo: fermented in enamelled concrete or stainless steel tanks for 14 days, then matured in oak casks or barriques for about a year, bottled it continues to age for six months before being released on the market, a valid representative of Chianti throughout the world.
