SERAFINO RIVELLA
Serafino Rivella, fine Barbarbaresco
Serafino Rivella winery is located on top of one of the most iconic cru in the town of Barbaresco, the Montestefano cru.
The current owner, Teobaldo Rivella, is a winemaker of yesteryear, descended from a family of winemakers, his father Serafino and before him his grandfather Pietro produced wine in demijohns already in the early 1900s, while Guido Rivella, Pietro's brother, was an oenologist for Angelo Gaja for more than 40 years.
Teobaldo Rivella began bottling and selling wine under the name Serafino Rivella in 1967, using the same vineyards left him by his father.
There are two types of wine produced by the Serafino Rivella winery, Barbaresco Montestefano and until the 2017 vintage Dolcetto, which was replaced by a hailstorm that destroyed the vines from Nebbiolo d'Alba 2019.
Teobaldo Rivella pursues the same style of production and winemaking taught him by his father and grandfather. In the vineyard all work is strictly manual and no pesticides, fertilizers or other chemical products are allowed, only the thinning of the plants and the choice of the best bunches already in the vineyard.
The wine of the Serafino Rivella winery is a natural wine obtained by following the philosophy of organic viticulture although not certified, over the years has kept alive the same concept of wine that the Rivellas had before him, a natural viticulture, sustainable and respectful, accepting the course of the seasons, for better or for worse.
The wines of Serafino Rivella are real wines, which genuinely tell the story of the territory from which they are born.
