YANN CHAVE
Yann Chave, organic wines from Rhône Valley
Yann Chave winery is a wine reality located in the Rhône Valley, in the heart of Crozes-Hermitage appellation. It was founded by Yann's parents at the beginning of 1970's: only one hectare of vineyard and the rest all orchards. They started a work of enlarging the estate by keeping the system of double cultivation, according to an ancient tradition.
The first harvests were sold to local merchants, and starting from 1973, they started making their own wine before joining the Cooperative Winery of Tain until 1978. The following year, Nicole and Bernard Chave created their own private winery. In 1996 their son Yann, at the age of 26, took the reins of the winery. Strongly attached to the land and driven by a great passion, he decided to renovate the vineyards and started to work on the land.
The company follows organic farming methods, after Yann was the victim of a poisoning by an insecticide that he used to treat the vines, he began to look for alternative solutions, committing to organic farming at the dawn of 2000. He then received certification in 2007. Today, the estate covers 20 acres, including 1.2 acres on the legendary Hermitage Hill.
