Slat corkscrew
The corkscrew is essential for the opening of aged bottles as it is specially designed to attach the cork stopper by gently extracting it instead of piercing it like the classic corkscrew.
The aging over time, the continuous contact of wine to cork (if the bottle has been properly maintained in a horizontal position), the environmental conditions and humidity of the resting cell affect the fibers of the cork that loses its natural strength.
With the use of a normal corkscrew you would run the risk of disintegrating the cork both during the drilling phase, literally crumbling it and pushing it down making it come into contact with the wine, but especially during the extraction phase: if you are lucky enough to be able to perforate the cork, the attempt to extract will inevitably lead to the crumbling of the cork.
The reed corkscrew is specially designed to fit laterally to the cork, in the gaps between the cork and the neck of the bottle avoiding any perforation or breakage.
Through a gentle movement of rotation and traction, the reed corkscrew will carry with it the cork stopper extracting it but keeping it perfectly intact.
The reed corkscrew, or reed corkscrew, is the right tool to open a very old wine without running the risk of having to filter it after an incorrect opening to eliminate cork residues inside.
