Barolo "Ginestra Casa Maté" 2017 Magnum Elio Grasso
Barolo "Ginestra Casa Maté" is a splendid expression of Piedmontese red wine produced by the family-run winery Elio Grasso. It is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown on the most important hill in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba, in the Ginestra cru. Like the other reds produced in this area, it shows a more elegant profile with less rough tannins than the Barolos produced in the nearby commune of Serralunga d'Alba.)
The "Ginestra" cru where the grapes used to produce Elio Grasso's Casa Maté are grown is a vineyard of just three hectares at 350 metres above sea level. The 40-year-old vines grow on calcareous-clay soil and are trained using the traditional Guyot system. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in steel tanks with continuous daily pumping over, while the wine is aged for 30 months in oak barrels followed by 8-10 months in the bottle.
Barolo "Ginestra Casa Maté" Elio Grasso is ruby red in colour, tending towards garnet with the passage of time, accompanied by a full and intense bouquet with hints of red fruit, dried flowers, mint, spices and undergrowth. In the mouth the wine is robust and elegant, with silky tannins accompanied by a nice freshness.
