ELIO GRASSO
The evolution of Langhe by Elio Grasso
Elio Grasso is one of the most famous names in the Piedmontese wine scene, and with the passing of time has become a real reference in the Langhe. His winery, located in Monforte d'Alba, is now run together with his wife Marina Fontana, his son Gianluca and Enrico Marchisio.
In a beautiful landscape surrounded by woods, there are the 18 hectares of vineyards and the cellar, partly dug into the hill where it stands, presents the ideal conditions for the maturation and conservation of the wines.
Only grapes belonging to the estate are vinified, and in addition to the native Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto, Chardonnay vines were planted in 1986, used for the production of the "Educato" wine, meaning that this international grape variety has been "educated" to the terroir of the Langhe.
In the cellar, stainless steel tanks are used for all fermentations, except the Educato, and then 25 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels and small 225 L French oak barrels for maturation. Attention to every minimum productive step and absolute respect for the terroir are the strong points of Elio Grasso's company, whose wines are expressions of pure territoriality and great quality.
