MARGUET
Marguet, biodynamic Champagne
Marguet is a very old Champagne company, which was founded in 1870 in Ambonnay, a renowned Grand Cru site in the Montagne de Reims. In 2008, the young BenoÎt Marguet, representative of the fifth generation of the family, decided to set up his own winery from the 8 hectares of vineyards located between Ambonnay and Bouzy, thus the maison Marguet was born.
BenoÎt Marguet is an open-minded and experienced winemaker, belonging to that new generation of Champagne producers who have drawn the attention of enthusiasts and the most experienced and demanding drinkers to their unconventional style and biodynamic approach in the vineyard and cellar. Work in the vineyard is carried out exclusively with two horses to plough the land and, for treatments, only decoctions, vegetable fertilisers and essential oils are allowed, in accordance with the principles of biodynamic agriculture and aromatherapy.
Vinification is carried out using only indigenous yeasts in Bordeaux barriques and oak vats, with long stays on the fine lees and very limited use of sulphites. Around 80,000 bottles are produced each year for a range of Champagnes with low residual sugar (they are almost all extra-brut) and express to the full, with profound originality, all the complexity of the terroir.
