Taurasi "Naturalis Historia" 2009 Mastroberardino
The 2009 Taurasi "Naturalis Historia" is a red wine from Campania produced by Mastroberardino, made from Aglianico grapes from a 40-year-old vineyard on the Mirabella Eclano estate. The vineyards are located at about 400 metres above sea level and rest on a sandy loam subsoil. The must macerates on the skins for a long time, fermenting in temperature-controlled steel tanks, while the ageing process is divided into two phases: first for 24 months in barriques, and then, after bottling, another 30 months directly in glass, before going on sale.
It is a great red wine of the South, rich, structured, intense and long-lived, capable of ageing for up to ten years in the cellar. The Taurasi "Naturalis Historia" shows to the sight with an intense garnet red colour. The nose expresses a rich and evolved bouquet of fruit jam, spices and hints of Mediterranean and undergrowth. The taste is austere and structured, characterized by a beautiful harmony between freshness and tannins are well harmonized with each other.
The very long finish closes with a note of aromatic herbs. One of the most powerful and long-lived expressions of southern Italy, this great Mastroberardino red wine has achieved many successes and awards.
