Taurasi Radici 2014 Mastroberardino
Mastroberardino's Taurasi Radici is a great red wine from Campania, one of the most powerful and territorial expressions of southern Italy. It is made from 100% Aglianico grapes, an indigenous Campanian vine that in difficult times for local viticulture was falling into disuse, and it was the Mastroberardino family who, to counter this crisis, bought the grapes from the farmers so that Aglianico could remain alive.
Radici Mastroberardino is made from pure Aglianico grapes from the prestigious clayey terroir of Montemarano and the sandy terroir of Mirabella Eclano, from plants located at an altitude of around 500-650 metres subject to considerable temperature swings between night and day and mitigated by the sea breezes of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The grapes ripen slowly and in November the harvest is carried out with a careful selection of the vines.
Alcoholic fermentation takes place with a long maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature, while refinement takes place in barriques and oak barrels for about 24 months. The Radici Taurasi expresses an intense ruby red colour with garnet hues. The nose is complex with a bouquet of plum, cherry, strawberries, violets on a background of spices and saline notes. The sip is intense, deep and elegant, with great aromaticity and Mediterranean warmth.
