Barolo Castellero 2016 Giacomo Fenocchio
Barolo Castellero 2016 is a fine wine from Piedmont produced by Giacomo Fenocchio. The grapes come from the surroundings of the commune of Castellero in Barolo, from a vineyard of 0.8 hectares composed of Tortonian marly and tuffaceous soil, with a good amount of sand.
The vines are about 30 years old and face west, at an altitude of about 280 metres above sea level. The grapes are harvested by hand and the maceration and fermentation phase is very long, in keeping with tradition, as is the ageing process, which involves an initial 6 months in steel vats and then the actual ageing process of 30 months in large wooden barrels.
Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo "Castellero" shows a beautiful garnet red colour, while the nose offers fruity and floral, earthy and spicy scents, with a liquorice finish. The taste is fresh and sapid, full-bodied with silky tannins.
