Chambolle Musigny 2017 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod
Chambolle Musigny is a red wine from Burgundy produced by Domaine Barthod with Pinot Noir grapes from the village of Chambolle Musigny. It is a blend of grapes cultivated in 13 different parcels of land (for a total of 1.5 hectares) including old vineyards in Aux Croix and Les Herbues as well as a micro parcel of 0.07 hectares in the 1er Cru Les Sentiers which is too small to be vinified separately.
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod follows the philosophy of the least possible intervention both in the vineyard, where no chemical products are used, and in the winery. Grapes are partially destemmed before pressing and for fermentation, which takes place in steel tanks, only indigenous yeasts are used, which allows a slower start of fermentation and therefore a pre-fermentation maceration of some days followed by another maceration of about 20 days. After fermentation, wines are racked in small casks (about 20% to 25% of which are new) and aged for about 20 months.
Chambolle Mysigny Barthod shows in the glass a ruby red color accompanied by aromas of plum, violet and blueberry, as well as a subtle minerality. In the mouth is a structured and medium bodied wine, maybe less elegant than what one would expect but with some years of aging in bottle it becomes exceptional.
