Etna Rosso "Contrada Monte Serra" 2018 Benanti
"Contrada Monte Serra" is a great Sicilian red wine produced by the Benanti winery on the slopes of Mount Etna with Nerello Mascalese grapes vinified in purity.
The vines that give life to this Etna Rosso grow on sandy volcanic soil in the Contrada Monte Serra, which gives its name to the wine, in the commune of Viagrande, at an altitude of 450-500 metres above sea level. The vines vary in age and some are even more than a hundred years old. They face south-east and are grown using the alberello system.
Harvesting takes place at the end of September when the grapes are ripe, fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature with maceration for 21 days using indigenous yeasts selected by the company after lengthy experimentation. The wine matures in French oak tonneaux for 12 months and then in steel before going into the bottle, where it is refined for a further 10 months.
Etna Rosso "Contrada Monte Serra" is ruby red in colour with delicate garnet reflections, on the nose it is ethereal and spicy with notes of red fruit, on the palate it is full-bodied, round with a good tannic texture and a delicious persistence.
