Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Vergers" 2016 Ramonet
The 2016 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Vergers" is a fine white wine from Burgundy. The nose offers pure white orchard fruit carried forward by a salty minerality. On the palate crystalline fruit with good intensity, saline and powerful, yet light and immensely refined. The purity is surprising as is the silky and very juicy fruit, perfectly balanced with an energetic and refined acidity. A very refined cru 1er Chassagne, probably among the best in the village of Chassagne-Montrachet. Jean-Claude Ramonet is the third generation to run this great estate by carrying on a great reputation, rather than building or re-building. Fruit from vines less than 18 years old is excluded from the domaine's cuvées and yields are severely limited. The wines are vinified using traditional methods and then aged in oak (33% new) for 12-15 months. The Montrachet is aged in 100% new oak. There is no battonage but there is prolonged contact with the lees before the first racking.
