Gevrey - Chambertin 1er cru Clos St. Jacques 2017 Sylvie Esmonin
Gevrey - Chambertin 1er cru Clos St Jacques 2017 is a natural Burgundy wine from Sylvie Esmonin. The property comprises 5 hectares in Gevrey - Chambertin, with a beautiful extension of the Premier Cru Clos St-Jacques as the "backyard" family house, and the newly added vineyards in Volnay Santenots and Côte - de - Nuits - Village. The average age of the vines is high, most of which were planted by Sylvie's grandfather, and some by her father. The cellar is very large, with a beautiful stone cellar below. All the production steps are carried out with great care: the grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and fermented in open wooden vats, then placed in barrels for secondary fermentation and aging. The barrels are of various ages to accommodate the different cuvées. This in particular derives from the 1er cru St. Jacques vineyards which extends for 1.6 ha of parcels from vineyards 45-55 years old. Fermentation takes place with bunches that are 70% whole, in 90% new barrels. Out of production, Gevrey - Chambertin 1er cru Clos St Jacques 2017 opens with a strong floral aroma of violet, ripe red cherry, sweet spices and a touch of animal hints of leather. With a sophisticated palate, in the mouth it offers aromas of plum, blueberry, a touch of aromatic herbs and a nice flavor, all in a new wooden frame. Dense sip and long and defined finish, a few years of storage in the cellar will make this fantastic and pure expression of clos St. Jacques perfect.
