Gevrey-Chambertin Vielles Vignes 2018 Sylvie Esmonin
Gevrey Chambertin Vielles Vignes 2018 is a French natural wine from the Burgundy region, produced by Sylvie Esmonin.
The property comprises 5 hectares in the Gevrey-Chambertin, with a beautiful extension of the Premier Cru Clos St-Jacques as the "backyard" family house, and the newly added vineyards in Volnay Santenots and Côte-de-Nuits-Village.
The average age of the vines is high, most of which were planted by Sylvie's grandfather, and some by her father. The cellar is very large, with a beautiful stone cellar below. All the production steps are carried out with great care: the grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and fermented in open wooden vats, then placed in barrels for secondary fermentation and aging.
The barrels are of various ages to accommodate the different cuvées.
This Burgundy wine 2018 Vielles Vignes is made from grapes from 60-year-old vines from vineyards that come from the Gevrey-Chambertin area. The company philosophy is to intervene as little as possible but to preserve the grapes to reach perfect ripeness. Fermentation is activated by indigenous yeasts followed by aging which takes place for about 50% in new wood for 18 months. With a great structure and softness, the nose plays on a marked hint of dark fruit which is also found in the mouth. Balanced and intriguing with a beautiful length that ends with a savory finish.
