Montepulciano D'Abruzzo 2018 Emidio Pepe
Montepulciano D'Abruzzo 2018 is a fine wine from Abruzzo produced by Emidio Pepe. This wine represents the revenge of Montepulciano, king of red berried grapes from Abruzzo, which was once considered as a wine of not excellent quality and with scarce predisposition to aging. The hard work of winemakers such as Emidio Pepe, driven by the will of producing great wines which faithfully reflect the territory, led to these results: today Pepe represents one of the most important names in the Italian wine scene, and his Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a great wine, with an evolution capacity equal to the greatest red wines of the world. Produced according to the principles of organic farming integrated to biodynamic farming in full respect of the territory, this wine is made with 100% Montepulciano grapes coming from 30 years old vineyards. According to Pepe, a fundamental element which affects the quality of wine is how healthy the grapes are, for this reason no chemical substances are used and the highest attention is paid both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in steel tanks, afterwards the wine is bottled by hand without any filtration and aged in cement for 24 months. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2018 Emidio Pepe has an intense and dark ruby color; on the nose it gives hints of fresh fruit when young which will be greatly enriched with the evolution with aromas of graphite, earth and underbrush. The taste is austere and rich in acidity and tannins in its youth, which with time will diminish giving great balance. Great and immortal wine.
