Fixin "Champ Perdrix" 2018 Domaine Bruno Clair
Domaine Bruno Clair's 2018 Fixin is a fine Burgundy wine with excellent value for money. AOC Fixin was regulated in 1937: the territory covers an area of 120 ha for 95% occupied with Pinot Noir vines and 5% Chardonnay.
In the past years Fixin's wines were very famous and looked for, considered superior even to the ones from Gevrey Chambertin. In modern times the fame of this commune has decreased, without any real reason if not for some distinctive characters such as the ones of wildness and balsamicity which are maybe less fashionable nowadays. These labels are very underrated because in the hands of great producers, capable of taming the important distinctive traits of this AOC, the grapes give us exceptional wines capable of surprising even more than more noble appellations.
The grapes used to make Fixin Bruno Clair come from a vineyard called "Champ Perdrix" located closer to the border with Gevrey Chambertin than to the one of Marsannay, it represents an excellent synthesis between the most elegant and soft Pinot Noirs and the most masculine, balsamic and wild ones. Bruno Clair makes wine in a traditional way, always looking for purity and territoriality, he often uses whole bunches according to the harvests, and the use of new woods is around 20-30% in this wine.
Fixin "Champ Perdrix" shows in the glass a medium dark and limpid ruby red color, to the nose the wine is balsamic, spicy, fruity and with a slight wild hint. In mouth is a great wine with a length you do not expect, it enraptures the palate with good tannins, good acidity and sapidity.
An enjoyable wine to pair with great meats or aged cheeses.
